The cross-party Education Committee has published its report on Reading for Pleasure.
Recommendations in the report, include:
- Automatic library membership for every child
- Dedicated outreach staff in every library service
- Stronger local partnerships to support reading and literacy
The Committee recognises that public libraries are uniquely placed to inspire reading for pleasure. They provide children and young people with a free, welcoming space to explore books on their own terms, supported by library staff who know how to spark curiosity and confidence in reading.
