Cooper, Mackesy, McCall Smith and Mosse receive New Year Honours

Jilly Cooper has been made a dame for services to literature and to charity, having previously received a CBE.

Charlie Mackesy won an OBE for services to art and literature.

Alexander McCall Smith has received a knighthood for services to literature, to academia and to charity, having previously received a CBE.

Kate Mosse has been award a CBE for services to women and to charity and is described by the Cabinet Office as "a champion of diversity and female equality". She is the co-founder of The Women's Prize for Fiction which is now one of the biggest literary prizes in the world.
