Althorp Literary Festival

News, Events 04.09.2018

Played out against the backdrop of one of Britain's most spectacular private historic houses, Althorp Literary Festival is a literary event like no other. Now in its fourteenth year, the event has previously played host to over 300 of the biggest names and this year is no exception. Taking place from the 5th – 7th October amongst the exciting guests already confirmed for 2018 are chef, writer and The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith; historians Dan Snow, Dan Jones and Helen Rappaport; author of Sharpe novels, Bernard Cornwell; Professor of Global History at Oxford University Peter Frankopan; politicians and authors Paddy Ashdown and Alan Johnson; eroticism and erotic literature writer Rowan Pelling; plus acclaimed mountaineer Sir Chris Bonington.

Set in the 500-year-old estate and grounds of Althorp House in Northamptonshire, the festival is part of a rich literary heritage with George John, the 2nd Earl Spencer, amassing one of the greatest private libraries in Europe. With Althorp House closed off to the public for most the year and places for this unique event at a premium, it’s not an opportunity to be missed.
